James Pollock - Social Captain

Meet James, your Social Captain

Meet James! I'm sure many of you will have already seen him up at the club enjoying a cold social come Summer or Winter! A club legend from many years ago, James has done it (or organised) it all - not least guiding the club through a tumultuous COVID season or two!

Here's what James had to say about his time at Western:

Could you give us a short description of your history here at Western?

I started playing for the club when I was 11 so this will be my 32nd year playing for Western.

What made you want to take on the role you’re in? What causes or issues are you most passionate about?

Over the years the club and the people here have given me so much, I have had the pleasure of meeting and playing with so many people and formed many great friendships. By helping the club run I hope that I can help others enjoy their Western experience as much as I have.

What goals do you want to see reached this season, or taken further with your involvement?

I really enjoyed the 5s tournament we hosted this year and hope that it will only increase in popularity.

What is something you’d like our community at Western to know about the club?

How lucky we are to have our own facilities, other than helping the club raise funds to go back into the club the ability to hold events that give you a chance to meet other members from the other teams and create the social atmosphere that we all enjoy is a massive bonus for us.

What’s something you’re personally really proud of that you’ve achieved at the club?

Seeing the club through the covid years when I was president and seeing how the members reacted. It was a tough time for everyone but I really felt that all members did the best they could in a bad situation and did it with kindness and understanding.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

Good luck to all the teams this year.

Thanks so much for your time and experience, James. If you've got anything you'd like to suggest for our social events, hit James up at the club.
